Basic A-Line It

Measure & Mark | 2009-07-19 | No Comments

The In-Line Industries Basic A-Line It is a great starter kit for the home shop, or occassional user. It’s been in my toolbox for 5+ years and though it’s needed infrequently, I’m sure happy it’s there. It’s a very simple setup consisting of only a few parts. Of those parts is a 1″ dial indicator with .001 precision (plenty for woodworking measurements).

AOSafety WorkTunes

Few purchases in my shop has been so quickly obvious winners. Within a week of purchasing these I was wondering why I waited to long. Every tool in the shop is now more tolerable (from a noise perspective) and I am more productive (less environmental stress means I can spend more time in the shop).

Looking to sharpen your lathe turning tools? If you’ve spent any amount of time researching the options, then you’ve surely come across the OneWay Wolverine setup. OneWay seems to really get it, and the Wolverine sharpening system is a good example of this.

Easy Rougher Ci1 & Ci2

If you are a wood turner and haven’t heard of the Easy Rougher Ci1 and Ci2, then you might just be living under a rock. These tools are offered by Easy Wood Tools and since making their launch in 2008 have really gained some momentum. These immediately became my tool-of-choice for most all roughing cuts involved in preparing bowl blanks. They are beautifully crafted, built with quality materials, and work BETTER than advertised. I can’t say enough … I’m in love.

CH Hanson Precision Ball Level

The tagline reads “Easier to read than a bubble” on the packaging … and with that we get a feel for what CH Hanson set out to accomplish with this new level design. You’ll be able to use this tool to set plumb, determine pitch, measure angles, and level. Made with an aircraft aluminum body, the ball level is light weight and rigid. The ball level looks like something one might find an airplane, I imagine, and if nothing else is cool to watch (watch out, the kids will want this one!)

CH Finish Nailer

If you’re like me you are used to seeing Bostich, Porter Cable, Ridgid, and a few other brands of pneumatic tools at the local home centers. And while most any of those would probably be decent and fair equivalents, it’s kinda exciting to see innovation in a nailer.

Renaissance Wax Polish

Renaissance Micro-Crystaline Wax Polish (dang, now that’s a title!) is THE most expensive wax I’ve yet to purchase. Now it’s not a “new” product (been around for 40+ years!), it took over five years of looking at it on the shelf to finally take the splurge … an I’m sure glad I did. Now, I’m no chemist … so I don’t know the nitty gritty details of why this wax is so special — but put some to use and you’ll fall for it.

Sam Maloof left this life with more than a legacy in woodworking greatness … he left us with some finishes under his own name. Sold exclusively through Rockler (I believe), the Sam Maloof finishes are available in a Poly/Oil blend as well as a Oil/Wax blend. It’s my understanding that these are his own formulas, similar to that used on his fine rocking chairs.

Boeshield Rust Free

There are so many products on the market that remove rust it’s difficult to navigate the differences. From my experiences, the ones that work best often are harsh and the ones that you safely use don’t work so well. Until I found Boeshield Rust Free.

Empire Bladesaver

This is one of the products that looks like it shouldn’t work … then suprises you. The Empire Blade Saver is a clear liquid and comes in a squirt bottle with a fairly cheesy graphic. Usually this is a sign that what’s inside doesn’t match what it says outside. Luckily, that’s just not the case with Blade Saver.
