I have a Grizzly... same problems. I even returned it to them. They sent it back and said they could not find anything wrong with it. If you touch a pencil to the disk when spinning and then turn it off, the mark will only be on about a third of the disk. shakes itself off the bench.

Shop Fox strikes again! It amazes me that this company can still manage to sell woodworking tools. The 2 Shop Fox items I have purchased had the same quality control issues as this sander. Save your money, time, and frustration and buy you tools from a company that puts more emphasis on manufactering quality!

I'm interested in using one for creating precise angles, so I appreciate the advice on where to start looking for machines that can do that. Thanks!

A disc sander is an important tool in a woodworker's arsenal. I've used the Deta 12" disk sanders and have not seen that kind of runout issue. I personally have a large 20" General and love it. A large disc sander with a lot of mass is great for precision work. Spin it up to speed, turning it off, and you can sand away doing precision work for minutes. I probably sand with the power cut off about half the time because it can also remove stock very aggressively. Also the table on the larger sanding units are rack and pinion for the angle making precision work a breeze.

I definitely would skip over this one and go for the Delta 12" if you are space and $$$ constrained. If you have room in your shop and $$$ in your wallet I'd suggest jumping up to a floor model 20". General makes a great one and so does Powermatic.
